Yet another CD compilation you'll never find... not even at K-Mart.

This is an interesting piece of work, albeit a silly one... originally just an acoustic instrumental recorded by Donald on his boom-box, it wasn't until months later that it began to take any shape at all when Donald brought it over to Lloyd - who had just purchased his own 4-track recorder similar to Dan's. There, they added a little Casio keyboard, a chorus of "Lah-lahs" and some imitation bird calls. It was bound to get silly.

Two Out Of Bodies, Donald and Mark, have an Out Of Body experience one night at Hooters. Donald's rendition (left) was drawn at the scene, in-between the Buffalo wings and the curly fries - and Mark took his naughty thoughts home with him and drew up his own scenario (right).

Dan (out of focus in background), Joe and Donald experimenting
with strange lighting in front of a camera.

In 1997 Dan decided to almost exclusively record nothing but folk songs with a spiritual message. This was one of the rare tunes recorded during that time that escaped that fate. Heh heh... Labeled the "Oogah Boogah Song" this catchy little ditty appeared on a cassette tape that Joe held in his possession until recently. The cassette case featured this self portrait of Dan surrounded by angels playing musical instruments.

Worried Donald, Happy Lloyd

A couple of very silly pictures found inside of cassette tape covers. You see, way back when, Donald and Lloyd used to record a lot of their own comedy sketches onto cassette tapes - and then Lloyd would usually compile all the silly bits interspersed with whatever music was happening at the time, and then present Donald with a cassette (or a set of cassettes) around the holidays - very often complete with cover art and a list of contents.

This nonsense went on for years.

Dan and Joe doing a "Grimly"

Recorded plainly with an acoustic guitar, a set of maraccas and perhaps a guitar case for some percussion - this rarity was culled from a cassette tape featuring Mark, Donald and Dan covering one of their favorite Paul McCartney tunes from his post-Beatles days. Mark and Donald try their best to behave themselves through most of the recording, but as you can hear for yourself - they sort of lose it there at the end. Dan comments "You sound like a bunch of nannies!"

See a drawing Mark did of Paul McCartney, Unplugged.

A few quick doodles
Donald drew Joe on a Post-It one morning while he was having coffee -
Joe did this doodle of himself and his family on the back of a postcard - and
Dan added this self-portrait of himself in a recent letter to Donald.
(Note the ever-present Bob's Store t-shirt!)

It was Dan's idea to do this early Kinks song one day - and like so many impromptu recordings, this one just made it as far as the boom box. Donald sings it in semi-Ray Davies fashion - as requested by Dan, who always felt Donald sounded (and sometimes looked) like Davies anyway. True or not, Donald enjoyed Dan's bit of trivia about the song - which has it that Ray wrote it while in a mental institution, watching the weekly rendevous of a young couple through his window.

To our amusement a lot of people comment about the tune, "Don't Go Jzero" - possibly because of it's catchy hook, Dan's retro-sounding guitar solo, or it's supposedly nonsensical lyric, "Ba-ba-ba-bah, Ba-ba-bah-bah-bah-bah-bah-bah"... but not too many people know it was originally created for a short animated film project of Donald's. Unfortunately, Donald only got as far as shooting a "pencil test" on super 8 film, and reproducing a few frames in color for this animated gif pictured above. Also pictured here are the original hand written lyrics as contributed by Dan. Click on the lyrics to see a bigger view and to play the completed song.
